Port Stephens House I

Set on a hillside of Nelson Bay NSW, Port Stephens House is an impressive home for an empty nester that splits her time between Australia and North America.

Originally briefed with a more decorative scope my involvement quickly grew to full design and decoration of the two bedroom, two and half bathroom home. Rationalising the planning of the upper floor for mainly entertaining and to take greater advantage of the 180 degree view of Nelson Bay while private spaces sit below.
The client has an extensive existing collection of antiques and objet d’art which has informed many of the design decisions. Part of the process of downsizing was to curate pieces with great sentimental value while adding new pieces for this next stage of life.

The resulting home is richly layered with a dark, dramatic material palette and characterful decoration.

My two requests were for a dark bedroom where I feel cocooned and secure and a smart walk in closet. I love what Nic has created for me, I feel so glamorous everyday when I get dressed
