Millers Point Terrace
Located within the historic fabric of Millers Point in The Rocks, Sydney, this terrace residence forms part of one of the city’s most significant heritage precincts. Constructed circa 1870 and recognised on the NSW Heritage Register, the home represents an important chapter in Sydney’s architectural and cultural history.
The project involves a thoughtful renovation that carefully balances the introduction of contemporary living amenities with the preservation of the building’s historic character. Designed for a young family, the proposal seeks to improve functionality and comfort while respecting the architectural integrity of the terrace.
Working within the stringent planning controls of the City of Sydney Council and the Heritage Council, the design responds sensitively to the constraints of a heritage listed property. The state significant street frontage remains untouched, ensuring the historic streetscape continues to be preserved.
To support modern family living, the design introduces a modest extension to the rear and side of the home. This intervention allows for a more practical internal layout while maintaining the heritage character that defines this historic terrace.
The result is a carefully considered approach that brings together heritage conservation and contemporary residential design, ensuring the home continues to evolve while honouring its place within one of Sydney’s most important historic neighbourhoods.
