Danks Street - Home & Studio

I have loved this complex since it was completed in 2014, an award winning collaboration between BKH and SJB. When the opportunity arose for my partner and I to move from Sydney’s Lower North Shore to this standout Danks Street, Surry Hills building, we jumped at it.

The apartment’s planning suits the way we live and entertain, though it needed a refresh to better reflect my own aesthetic. We moved here during the pandemic, which meant creating a dedicated home office. Fortunately the existing layout supports this beautifully, with the private spaces located to the east and the kitchen, dining and living areas opening to a generous outdoor room to the west.

Proximity to suppliers has also been a major advantage for my work life. Located within the same complex are Winnings Appliances, Spence and Lyda, Robert Plumb, Dilorenzo Tiles and Studio Gallery, with many other design showrooms just across the street. Danks Street has long been a design hub in Sydney and it is wonderful to feel part of that creative community.

With the introduction of new lighting and added contrast within the kitchen finishes, the living and entertaining spaces feel completely transformed. My home and studio is a curation of pieces I have collected over time through travel, alongside new pieces chosen specifically for this apartment. It reflects the things I love as well as ideas I am experimenting with, because I believe it is important for a designer to always keep evolving.

My home is colourful, playful and considered.

Its also highly functional - because we entertain a lot and have a dog. Choosing the right furniture and fabrics has been essential to an easy life.
